The historical sites visited on the trip are located in Matabeleland, the region of today's Zimbabwe, stretching north and south of the city of Bulawayo. At the end of last century it was inhabited by pioneers and local peoples. The Trip started from Linda's house in Harare: some of us in a Land Cruiser, some in a Mercedes and some in Mr. Potgieter's...Autovilla (a sort of caravan). We headed to Bulawayo south-west of Harare, but since the Autovilla could not excede 80Km/h it took quite a long time to get down to Bulawayo!

Denise's restaurant was the first stop along the road for lunch. It was worth it: we had a nice snack under a thatched roof gazebo in a wide green lawn with a zebra grazing just next to us....than back to our 80Km/h ride to Bulawayo.

Bulawayo Club was a mirage, after that long drive: we arrived there just in time for a shower before meeting our guest Paddy. The Club is in a perfect English style, fascinating for the furniture, photos, letters, pictures, books and objects from the past times. After a formal dinner (skirt for women, tie for men) Paddy gave a talk for us about the life of the pioneers and missionaries among which our breed developed. Charming woman, enchanting story teller we listened to Paddy speechless, holding breath till the end of her speech like children and I am sure, once in bed dreaming of those brave men and women and their times we all were also dreaming, as I did, of RRs at their side! That was the lovely end of our first day on the trip!
